Sherwood Park, Alberta

Nature Inspired. Studio Crafted.

Original hardwood art, carved one piece at a time — topographical maps of the places you love, live-edge furniture, boards built for daily use, and commissions that exist exactly once.

Why it costs what it costs

No two pieces leave here the same

One board, one piece

Wherever the design allows, a project comes from a single board — chosen for its grain, tone and character. That is why a second one would never match.

Finished to be used

Osmo food-grade oils on anything that touches food. Ceramic coating where a piece needs to survive a household. Built to be handled, not admired from a distance.

Made here, by one person

Designed, carved, sanded, finished and packed in Sherwood Park. When you email about a project, you are emailing the person who will make it.

Commissions

You bring the idea.
I’ll help you shape it.

Most of what I make never reaches the shop. It starts as a conversation — a place someone loves, a truck they rebuilt, a wedding date, a dog they lost.

From past clients

What people say afterwards

“I reached out to Terry at Stain and Steel to make a custom piece for my sister’s wedding, and he absolutely nailed it. The attention to detail and craftsmanship were unreal, and the marble look in the lettering came out even better than I imagined. My sister and her husband were blown away, and it’s now one of their favorite pieces in their new home.”

— Steve L.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with Terry on a couple of different projects. His craftsmanship and attention to detail are second to none. Not only do the tables he built for me look great but they have proven to survive the test of time. They are the centrepiece of our household and are a beautiful one of one work of art that we will have forever.”

— Brendan K.

Meet the maker

Hi, I’m Terry

My woodworking started about eight years ago with benches and kitchen tables. In 2020 I bought my first CNC machine, and the work changed — carving let me put a place, a memory or a name into the wood itself.

Stain & Steel Studios is still just me, in a shop in Sherwood Park, making one thing at a time.

Getting it to you

Pickup in Sherwood Park, or shipped

Smaller pieces — boards, cribbage boards, trays, wood care — ship across Canada and the United States. Larger and more fragile work, furniture especially, is local pickup by appointment once your piece is finished. I’ll confirm which applies to yours when I quote it.

Have something in mind?

Tell me the idea, however rough. Quotes are free, and I read every message myself.
