For the person who has everything, I create what they don’t.
We all know someone who’s impossible to buy for. You ask what they want and get the same answer every time: “Nothing. I have everything I need.”
That’s where I come in. Instead of trying to find something they don’t already own, let’s make something that doesn’t exist yet.
It could be a place that means something to them, a memory, a family property, a favourite vehicle, a pet, an accomplishment, an inside joke — or an idea that’s completely your own.
Something designed around who they are, not just the occasion you’re buying it for.
Birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, retirements, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas — or simply because someone deserves something you couldn’t have found on a shelf.
You bring me the person and the story. We’ll figure out what to make them.

Send me whatever you have — photos, sketches, inspiration, measurements, or even just a rough description.
You don’t need to have everything figured out. That’s part of what I do.
I’ll let you know what’s possible and how I think we can approach it.
Price
Once I understand what we’re making, I’ll give you a price before any work begins.
Every custom project is different, so pricing depends on the design, materials, size and time involved.
Quotes are free. No surprises and no obligation.
Timeline
Most custom projects take approximately two to six weeks, depending on the size and complexity.
If it’s for a birthday, anniversary, retirement, wedding or another specific date, let me know when you contact me so I can tell you whether I can make the deadline.

I’m not interested in making the exact same thing hundreds of times.
Wood grain changes. Colours change. Materials behave differently. And custom ideas naturally evolve as they’re being designed and built.
The result is something that’s genuinely yours.
I’m not limited to just wood
Woodworking and CNC carving are at the heart of what I do, but they’re not the limit.
If the project needs resin, metal, concrete or another material to make the idea work, I’m open to it.
The goal isn’t to force your idea into what I already make. The goal is to figure out how to make your idea work.
You’re talking to the person building it
There’s no sales department, and your project isn’t being handed off to someone else.
I design, build and finish my work here in Sherwood Park.

Meet the maker
Hi, I’m Terry.
I started woodworking in 2016, building benches, tables, and whatever else gave me an excuse to spend more time in the shop.
In 2020, I added my first CNC machine, and that completely changed the way I looked at making things.
It wasn’t just another tool. It opened up possibilities I couldn’t tackle with traditional woodworking alone — detailed carving, topographical pieces, complex designs, and projects that pushed me well outside what I had been making before.
I’ve been building on that ever since.
I continually reinvest in my shop, my equipment, and what I know how to do. CNC technology has evolved, I’ve added automatic tool changing, lasers and new equipment, and I’ve expanded beyond wood into materials like resin, metal, aluminum and concrete.
Not because I need more toys — although I’m certainly not complaining — but because every new capability gives me another way to solve a problem or bring an idea to life.
And I’m nowhere near finished learning.
That’s a big part of what Stain & Steel is about for me. I don’t want to spend the next twenty years making the same thing I’ve already figured out how to make. I want the next project to teach me something, challenge me, or give me a reason to try something I haven’t done before.
Everything is still designed and made by me in my Sherwood Park shop. There isn’t a production line or a team behind the scenes. When you contact Stain & Steel with an idea, you’re talking to the same person who’s going to design it, figure out how to build it, and make it.
The shop will keep changing. The technology will keep getting better. And I’ll keep learning how to do more with it.

Getting it to you
Collected in Sherwood Park, or shipped
Smaller pieces ship across Canada and the United States. Larger and more fragile work — furniture and sculpture especially — is collected by appointment once your piece is finished. I will confirm which applies when I quote it.
